The Spiritual Man - Week 1

The Spiritual Man: Everyday Spirituality

Scriptures

I CORINTHIANS 2:14-16 14-16 The unspiritual self, just as it is by nature, can’t receive the gifts of God’s Spirit. There’s no capacity for them. They seem like so much silliness. Spirit can be known only by spirit—God’s Spirit and our spirits in open communion. Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing, and can’t be judged by unspiritual critics. Isaiah’s question, “Is there anyone around who knows God’s Spirit, anyone who knows what he is doing?” has been answered: Christ knows, and we have Christ’s Spirit.

Colossians 3:23 23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

Isaiah 60:1-3 1 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. 2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. 3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising

I Corinthians 15:45-49 45-49 We follow this sequence in Scripture: The First Adam received life, the Last Adam is a life-giving Spirit. Physical life comes first, then spiritual—a firm base shaped from the earth, a final completion coming out of heaven. The First Man was made out of earth, and people since then are earthy; the Second Man was made out of heaven, and people now can be heavenly. In the same way that we’ve worked from our earthy origins, let’s embrace our heavenly ends.

"You are unique and individual and you play a specific role. The most spiritual, individual thing you could ever be is just to be you. Exactly like God created you to be... Just like that puzzle piece."

"You can't separate the spiritual part of who you are from the physical. So don't let the devil try to make you think that it is a separate thing."

Being spiritual isn’t just spending hours in prayer and study or those sporadic moments. It’s living every day. The most spiritual thing that you can do is just to live and be who God created you to be.
